But beyond that, and the reason why she has all that is because she is just an absolute baller when it comes to real estate, and an absolute sweetheart gem authentic human being when it comes to being human. So Glennda Baker, such a pleasure to have you here on the show today. Thank you for joining us.

Glennda Baker
Justin, what an introduction Oh my stars and stripes. Holy cow. I think I’m just gonna like I just need that part. So I can just like put that out.

Justin Stoddart
You know, that was just a little bit of southern hospitality just coming right at you right there. So anyway, it’s it’s it’s a pleasure to know you and I obviously met, it’s been probably six months ago, we have a mentor in common who I know we both absolutely adore.

Justin Stoddart
Talk to me quickly. Before I kind of jump into kind of the meat of kind of what I promised people are going to get today is is the impact upon your real estate business of doing Tick Tock and ag real videos. Before we get to that, I just want to kind of tap into a little bit of the energy that you experienced last week. Obviously you were on stage in front of 1000s of people in person 10s of 1000s more I’m sure broadcast around the world. What was your your kind of greatest? Like, is your behind the scenes getting ready to go on stage? What was the aspiration of your heart of like, what did you really want to accomplish there.

Glennda Baker
So I just had one goal, and that was to impact inspire, and inform someone, just I knew that if I could just walk away, just inspiring one person that I will have like met my goal. And so when I went out there, and I mean it’s 4000 people, and they show it to you empty, right? So you do the dress rehearsal empty. But then when you get there, and you see all those people,

Glennda Baker
it took my breath away. In all honesty, it took my breath away.

Justin Stoddart
Yeah, I wanted to tap into that a little bit. Because I think there’s a lot of key ingredients to what you just said there to having some virality online. Obviously, you’ve experienced a lot of that. But I’m not surprised with what you said is that you weren’t going out there to be famous. You weren’t going out there to ooh and ah or the crowd. What ended up you went out there to touch somebody’s life. And because you did that the impact was, you know, the crowd isn’t that interesting. It’s just this interesting paradox that people don’t expect.

Glennda Baker
A it was but when I got out there, and I just I told him I said, just give me a minute, just let me just take it in. Because I may not ever be here against I wanted to be in that moment myself. And when I did that, you could almost feel the rush, coming at me of emotion, like, like I could as soon as I was like, just give me a moment, let me take it in, like you could almost feel like their hearts open to receive. And so for me that it was in that moment that I was just like, they’re gonna listen to me. Like, you know, you always see like, all those pictures where people are on their laptop, they’re on their phone, they’re not paying attention to the speaker anything. And not like that’s my worst nightmare, you know, is that people that they’re more interested in their phone, and they’re interested in what I’m saying.

Glennda Baker
But I didn’t have any expectations. I just said, If I can just inspire one person, I know that I’m going to have done that done, met my goal. And so as soon as I started feeling the energy back, it was like I just couldn’t even I couldn’t even think so I was so glad I had my little notes. I had my little slide. And I’ve presented to you know, 100 people or 200 people even, but never, ever, anything like that. It was crazy.

Justin Stoddart
It’s interesting, the principle that we can all take from that. Again, sometimes when we think of, again, the millions of people like six going on 7 million people have liked your Tick Tock Not to mention the other platforms. Yeah, like almost 500,000 people follow you right?

Justin Stoddart
You know, 62 million views like this is no small sampling of people that have come once and come back and come back. And again, if anybody here has the desire to number one have these platforms influence your business in really big ways, which we’re going to get to that. But also to impact humanity in really big ways what Glenda just said there about really connecting with people, right not being up there to wow people being there to connect with people. And being authentic enough to say, you know what, this is, this is a unique experience for me, and I’m going to soak this up. And now you have this, this dual transfer instead of just one person speaking it others, it’s a dance, right, and both people are exuding energy one to another. And it’s, it’s, it’s magical, I wish I could have been there in person to hear it. Because I’ve been around you enough to know that that

Justin Stoddart
everything that ever he was saying was Wow, I wasn’t surprised. But it’s fun to hear some of the mechanics behind the scenes of what you were feeling on the inside. Because I think there’s that has way more to do with your success than your than your lighting, right? Or your background or your frequency of videos.

Glennda Baker
Well, you know, this one girl said to me today, we were kind of debriefing about it in a room. And this in a clubhouse room. And the girl said to me, she goes for you. It’s about connection, not perfection. And I was like, Oh, my stores that like nail on head. Because for me, it wasn’t about that my dress was not exactly the perfect dress for the stage, or that my hair was a hot mess that day because it was human in Dallas. Like it wasn’t about any of that. It was literally just about connecting with them. And the dance. You’re exactly right. So like, as soon as they could feel it from me, they were giving it back to me. And to me, that was what really made it amazing was that I could feel them because I’m and they and I knew they were feeling me.

Justin Stoddart
We’ve talked recently in our in our mentorship group, about these Tony Robbins type events, right? where certain people have this ability to really tap into even a higher power to bring people to this, this better place, right? Tony does a great job of that. And I think it has somewhat to do what you just described there of it’s not just one motivational speaker up on stage delivering information that’s going to help people, but he actually was able to connect with people. Right? There’s a connection there. Right, that makes it feel like there’s only two people in this room. It’s the speaker and the other person receiving that yet everybody else is benefiting.

Glennda Baker
Yeah, yeah, it was, it was amazing. And when people told me, like, Oh, my gosh, you brought me to tears. And one guy said to me, and I didn’t even catch his name. As he was walking to the elevator. He goes, I’ve watched so many of your videos, and I was prepared for you not to be the person on your video. And it was so great to see that the person on stage was exactly the person I had fallen in love with on video. He goes, it was like magic putting the two together. And I was like, like that. I was like, Whoa, I love that. So and that’s the thing. I think that I think that what people don’t believe, is that really this is me. Like this is I mean, and you know, because we’re in a group every Wednesday night, so you get to see me and when I’m wilted, because our call isn’t until 7pm. Eastern. So I’ve already been through the trenches all day. So it’s not like you know, the beauty pageant in the morning, right? And it is what it is like there is like there is no other personality. Everybody says, Oh, well you can’t be like that all the time. Yeah, trust me. I’m like that all the time.

Glennda Baker
When I told the lady today when she wanted to pay me 4% instead of 6% I said you wonder why you have a piece of shit real estate agent now that’s why you do because you don’t want to pay him and I said I’m the Michael Jordan of real estate. I’m not working for something like that. And she’s like, okay, thank you and hung up the phone. And you know most agents would walk away from that and they would say they would like be devastated that they lost this $550,000 listing. For me. I look at it as she lost the opportunity to work with me. She lost the opportunity to get the most money in the least amount of time with the best real estate agent in Atlanta. I feel so bad for her. Like I literally thought that I was sitting there in my car thinking to myself you have lost your mind because it’s not like it was a slam dunk house. I mean this is a really difficult sale based on the product and the location and the price and I felt bad for her and I think that we should all know that type of value but that you know me I think I’m the Michael Jordan of real estate I’m not short on confidence that’s for damn sure.

Justin Stoddart
My so my my question I was gonna ask you, I’m sorry good segue into that. Is this, like, What does authenticity really mean? Because I feel like you’ve really harnessed that you really embrace that, right? Even you know, when you’re feeling weak, when you’re feeling invincible. There’s something that you can teach all of us about being really authentic. What is that?

Glennda Baker
Well, this is why I don’t understand about people who don’t show who they really are. Because at some point, the other person is going to find that out. Whether it’s a buyer seller, your loan officer, in any relationship, you can’t keep the facade up forever, because it’s exhausting. And So wouldn’t it just be easier to be who you really are all of the time? And let the chips fall where they may? Because what’s going to happen is, is that the people who buy into you are going to embrace you. And the people who don’t, you just got rid of the riffraff faster. So for me, I think it’s, it’s so It’s so confusing to me, why would you not want to, like, emphasize who you are. Because whether it’s good, bad and ugly, that’s who you are. Just, you know, be be real with it. And then and it’s, you know, cuz I mean, come on, give me a break. I’m 54 years old, I lived so much of my life, trying to be perfect, trying to fake it, trying to be what the other person wanted, because so they would choose me. And then when they got me, and I wasn’t what they wanted, I had just played this part. They were disappointed and so was I. So why not just fall in love with who you are? And just pour that out into the world? For me, that’s what I do. I you know, I accept who I am. I’m comfortable with who I am. And literally, I just spread that around like glitter and hope that everybody loves it.

Justin Stoddart
It’s beautiful thing, then what? Do you think that maybe some people aren’t that because they’re still trying to figure out who they are. They’re still trying to figure out there’s maybe so much absorption of whether it be social media, whether it be the society in which we live in which people are trying to be something they’re not that they’re really trying to uncover nutshell. Do you have any tips on helping people really determined like, Who am I, Glenda, I want to be authentic? But how do I who is that, like? How do I find that person? Any tips on that?

Glennda Baker
Well, you know, that’s a great question. And I live, as I said, I lived for so many years, trying to be something that I wasn’t. And it really wasn’t until I went to this Tony Robbins. I stopped drinking in 2015, that helped a lot. Or, yeah, 2015. And then I went to this, Tony Robbins, unleash the power within in 2017, in June with my son, and my son, he put his arms around me at the end of it. And my son is really this really tall kid, and he leans down and whispers in my ear, and he goes, I want to thank you for spending these four days with me. He is I’m never ever going to forget this time with you. And when he was hugging me, my head is right on his chest. And I can hear his heartbeat while he’s whispering to me. And I said, I want more moments like these, because I was so in the moment. And it was so raw, and it was so real. And that was when it hit me was like if you will live a life that is just real. And enjoy the moment and live in the moment and love the people that love you and surround yourself with those people. That is what gives you the comfort to be who you are. And I think that that it’s difficult to find out who you are cuz a lot because in social media, we’re all trying to keep up with each other. But this is the thing is if your measuring stick is somebody else, and somebody else posts and somebody else perfection, that’s not real, you can only measure your own greatness with yourself. So be the best person that you can be because that’s the true measuring stick.

Justin Stoddart
Beautiful I hope that there’s a lot of people that really took that to heart because I do think that there’s that’s something that maybe our society has lost right when when we live in prosperous times, and people are doing well. There tends to be a bit of a showcase of that all over the place. And so people feel insecurity in themselves because they’re looking all day long and everyone else’s highlight reels and and they’re looking at behind the curtain for them. They don’t see the highlight reel they see like the like, you know, the not so fun stuff. And so they think that they don’t belong and they’ve got to be somebody else. And I think one thing that you’re really helping us all to do and be is be the best version of yourself, but be yourself.

Glennda Baker
Yeah, absolutely.

Justin Stoddart
Let’s talk a little bit about What? What? What might Glennda be afraid of? Now, here’s why I say this. Because there’s a lot of people who are not comfortable being on video, let’s say, right, and you and I both know what a powerful tool it is for all kinds of business. And there’s some fear around that. And although you’ve overcome that, from from video standpoint, I’m sure that there’s there’s other fears. And maybe you could walk us through what any one of those fears might be, and or maybe how you have overcome fears, or how you would coach somebody through overcoming that fear.

Glennda Baker
My biggest fear is that I’m going to disappoint somebody else. That I mean, that is, if you if anything, you asked me, I’m always worried that I’m going to disappoint you, or you’re going to be disappointed in me. And I think that that comes with the high expectations that I hold for myself.

Glennda Baker
And so it goes back to though, that that was kind of like, the key to being myself was you, you can’t be too disappointed. Because, like, you know what you’re gonna get, like, there is no like, facade that, oh, that she’s some, you know, fancy, you know, smooth talking highly educated, you know, fancy business person, like, you know, if you’ve watched any of my videos, if you’ve seen anything about me, you’ve ever heard me talk, you know that I barely graduated from high school, and never took the LSAT test. I never applied to college. I didn’t want to go to school. And so I was always, I was always, you know, hated that question. Because I’m from the south, like, Who’s Your Mama, Who’s your daddy? What school did you go to? I mean, that’s what they asked you in the south. And so I was always like, I hated that question. Because I didn’t, I didn’t, my parents were divorced. I was the only person in high school, his parents were divorced. So I already had that my mother was like, 44 when I was born, so she looked like my grandma. And then on top of it, I hated school, and I didn’t do well in school. So I think that, you know, just disappointing people has always been like, my biggest fear. And I and I also lived with the fear of not being chosen, because I was the last kid picked on the playground. And I think that probably of the things that come back to me as an adult, that still kind of plays into, like, you know, when the, when the popular girls, the popular real estate agents don’t want me in their group. I’m like, Oh, I’m so nice, though, don’t you? Are you sure you don’t want me you know, so it’s still kind of hurts my feelings. But I think again, to me, I just I’m so comfortable at this point, being myself and so many people know who I am, that I just don’t even think about it too much. Love that.

Justin Stoddart
Hopefully, that’s a great recipe for everybody listening here today who’s like, you know, I want to have that confidence. I want to, I want to be myself, I don’t know who that self is, I’m going to find them. And then I’m going to gain the confidence to go be that in front of people. It’s one thing to be a behind the scenes, I’m going to be it out in front of other people.

Justin Stoddart
Let’s talk a little bit about maybe some of the kind of logistics, right? Obviously you’ve done an enormous amount of videos, right? This isn’t like you’ve like you’re one hit wonder. Like repeatedly, you put in some time and some work and some effort. And I’m inviting everybody that that is whether you’re catching this live, which it was small audience doing that now, the podcast, you know whether you’re listening to this later, go find at Glenda Baker I sorry, yeah, Glenda Baker. And it’s, it’s two ends, okay, so go find her and get a feel of how she does this. Right. It’s very simple. She’s not dancing. People think that if you’re going to be on tik tok, you better be like a former like NBA. Like dancer, girl, you got to be super talented in that regard. And you’ve kind of defied all that. Glennda like, like, you’re very beautiful lady. But there’s no dancing. I’ve never seen you dance. Right?

Glennda Baker
So no, I’m not dancing. Although I was on Dancing with the Stars. Like locally for a little charity event here in Atlanta. I did not win that. But I did raise a truckload of money. Love it.

Glennda Baker
But you know what? Like, if I could have been a dance NBA dancer, girl emaline I think I would have liked that. That would have definitely been up my alley cuz I love NBA. Alright, sorry, Justin. I digress. Go ahead.

Justin Stoddart
So what made you decide tik tok and Instagram reels when you’re not a dancer, right? Because often people think that well, that’s for kids. Like I’m a professional real estate agent. I need to be on LinkedIn only right? Or maybe Facebook, but pretty buttoned up. And now you’ve gone to some platforms that some would consider juvenile, right? And you’ve gone in you’ve absolutely dominated with no dancing. What was the mentality? And what recommendation would you give to other people that are maybe thinking like really Tick Tock?

Glennda Baker
So I was at a Tom Ferry conference in February of 2020. I had a little series called posts from the Porsche and that’s my live Facebook Instagram series. And so I love video, and I would get All in and I would like talk about in the moment and even today I did one about my listing appointment. And so and as I went to this retreat in February 2020, and Tom showed Zachary loft, they showed us tick tock and he had 46,000 views. And I turned to my friend Sergio and I said, if he can do Tick tock, I can do Tick Tock. And I met with a brand strategist that that week out in San Diego, and I said to him, I said, Dean, I think I’m gonna get on tik tok. And he goes, Oh, I think he’d be great on Tick Tock. And I’m like, well, you help me with that. He’s like, absolutely. And so sure enough, Dean and SRA. They just kind of guided me through the process about what to do, how to do it. And then my coach Jason Pantan with Tom Ferry really helped me. And then the pandemics that in and I was like, Oh, yeah, I’m not, I’m not gonna, I’m not gonna do that. And I thought I could be Zachary. And he’s like, 27 years old, he’s fun and does all these kind of crazy things. And that didn’t work. For me, the pandemic sets in, and I’m like, Okay, let’s put this on hold for a minute. And then we see that we’re going to get through it, and I’m still going to be able to sell real estate. And I call this videographer and I said, Hey, I found you on Instagram. I want to shoot some tik tok videos, I want you to shoot some tic Tock videos for me. He’s like, you do Raj, you can shoot those from your phone. I’m like, Yeah, but that’s not that’s not an extension of my brand. I want it to look fO

Glennda Baker
fO real. And he’s like, really? And I’m like, Yeah, I said, I don’t want it to look to HGTV. But I don’t want it to look like I shot it from like, my phone. Yeah. Like, okay, so he came and started shooting me. And that was actually one year ago, yesterday, I posted my first tech talk while I had 122 followers.

Justin Stoddart
57 million views later. Yeah, in one year, Glennda.

Glennda Baker
In one, and this is the thing is like, I have gotten to about so I started so October, whatever, yesterday was October 9, or eighth or something, or 10th. And so I had 122 followers. And I didn’t post every day, I just had eight videos. So I posted two a week. So I posted like 305 videos in the last 365 days. But by like Christmas, I was getting some momentum. So I had a few 1000 by Christmas. And then in January, I had a few 1000 more. And then in April, I had 34,000 so think about this in April of this year, I have 34,000 and today I think I looked I think I have like 460,000

Justin Stoddart
Yeah, so 34,000 followers, you’re saying yes, 34,000 followers. So when I checked on Saturday, there was 486,000 So yeah, approaching 500,000 like talk about a hockey stick trajectory, right?

Glennda Baker
Yeah. Consistency, and sit down some big real estate like article industry people, whatever you call those folks. Put me as like Instagram people to follow sit down with Frederick at Gulen and the agency and Douglas element, and I’ll let her I’m looking at the article and I’m like did they make a mistake like what’s going on here? And they put me it’s number one they put me before Frederick and I was like oh my god this guy I don’t know who he is. But thank you so yeah,

Justin Stoddart
so for anybody listening out there right I mean I think sometimes we think that this is a five year effort to try and actually get some traction I think the beautiful thing that you and I have learned from our mastermind group together is that there’s a few platforms that still have organic reach Facebook’s not one of them Instagrams not one of them right? They’re such pay for play platforms now because they’re so infiltrated with with ads right?

Glennda Baker
But you know Justin, think about it, think about that quote that I posted that I put in our little group. So I posted that quote, what was it a week or a week or two ago, and it was a quote card, and everybody said quote cards are dead on Instagram. And that thing has like 4000 likes and i think i think the last time I checked it has like a few 100 shares. So I think that the most important thing is Facebook and Instagram are definitely pay to play. There’s a few organic places that you can still be but the most important thing is consistency and quality of content. So when you’re bringing when you’re bringing you’re engaging with your audience, you’re bringing to them what they want from you what they expect from you and you’re engaging with them. There’s richness in the content. That’s kind of the secret sauce in my head, that’s the formula is understand who your audience is. give them what they want, and engage with them. And if you do those three things, I think that it will work for anybody.

Justin Stoddart
Beautiful, folks, if you didn’t catch that, go back and rewind, listen to what she said, implement that, right. And I love the fact that you can have your quality of content, right? you’ve demonstrated that by making an investment to not just do it from your phone, like making the investment to say, hey, look, this is an important part of my business. And I’m going to hire a professional, right, and you come in now your process, let’s talk a little bit about that. I was like, our entire group was enamored, when you were describing your process, like you pick a day out of the month, right? You have great videographer come in, you’ve got different outfits in different places in your home, designated. Now have you pre thought through things that you’re gonna say, or this is all just coming from this bank of great content that you store up in your brain.

Glennda Baker
So it does come from the bank of content, I make a note, I send a text to Denver, I’m pulling every day, I’m looking every day. But I’m really engaged in the comments and questions and DMS and my social media that my people want to hear what they want to see. So all through the month, I keep notes about what they want to hear what they want to see screenshots, what they got excited about. And so Denver gets their seven and sets up, I come down at 810 after the call to greatness. And then from 810 to 830, we frame out what we’re going to do, from 830 to 1130. We shoot Tick Tock from 1130 to 1230, I have lunch, and at one o’clock we pick back up and shoot video for Instagram, LinkedIn, General marketing videos, during the afternoon, and we finish up typically about six or seven o’clock.

Justin Stoddart
It’s just a day of filming and you knock it all out one day out of the month, and then who posts this for you.

Glennda Baker
I post Everything okay? I post everything myself, because I want the captions to be Okay, so first off, I want it to be relevant to my mindset that day. Like there was an issue with an HOA over the weekend. And so today on tik tok, I’m talking about Hoa Do you want to live in an HOA or not. So number one, I want the post to be where I am in real time. Number two, I want the caption to be in my words and my voice in where I am in my head in real time. And I’m going to give you a little hack and no charge for this tip today. And that is hashtag your name. Hashtag your name. So every one of my posts has hashtag Glenda Baker, the reason that you do that is because you can then search that hashtag. And it will tell you the cumulative number of views across all of your videos. So I hashtag Glenda Baker. So I’ve now started hashtagging get to know Glenda Those are my personal videos that are more about my personal life, like my love of stars, or hashtag posts from the Porsche because I want to see where I’m getting traction and on what series I’m getting traction. So that’s why you kind of break it down like that. Such a question. I think I went somewhere that I wasn’t supposed

Justin Stoddart
to get well I loved your answer. Regardless of what question it wasn’t. We’re both confused on what I asked. But But your answer was fabulous. And I want to make a point here is it just recently, Instagram has come out and said you guys your hashtags don’t matter that much. Right? We’ve had people, mentors in common of ours, right. Sharon has said like we’ve tested hashtag, lots hashtags, not very many hashtags. Like it doesn’t really move the needle much as far as how much reach you get. So the fact that Glennda has found a way to use this for her own analytics is brilliant. Right?

Glennda Baker
If Well, I will tell you, I think I disagree with Sharran and I never ever disagree with him. But I’m going to disagree with him on this. Because I have had people call me from searching Atlanta real estate. I have had people call me from searching Smyrna, Georgia, Marietta, Georgia, East cop, so I would almost disagree with that. But even if he is right, the ability for you to keep up with how many views your hashtag has, for your own analytics is important.

Justin Stoddart
Yes, brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. So I think this is a great eye opener for everybody, right? Social media doesn’t have to dominate every hour of every day. Like you need to be engaged after the fact. But the reality is you could you could knock out all of your content in one day, if you’re serious about this. And you really want to take this on as a as a true lead generation strategy and branding strategy. You’ve given us a great template on how to do that, Glenda and I would encourage people to really kind of follow something that’s already been done and done at the highest level here. Final question here. And again, I’m so grateful for your time I want to be respectful of your time. This is a question I ask everybody that comes on the show, I consider the signature question and really the reason why this show exists, which is to help people to think bigger, you see, but I believe that the greatest untapped natural resource in the world is human potential, right? It sits under kind of our earth, and we don’t actually go get it and get access to it for whatever reason. So my desire is to help people to wake up to the reality of who they can become, and to live in pursuit of that. And that’s why I want to have people like you and love having people like you on the show, because you help us to do that. So my question to you is this is that you are a big thinker, no doubt. My question was, what does Glenda Baker do to continue to be a big thinker to continue to ever expand your own personal possibilities to ever be growing? What does that look like for you?

Glennda Baker
So I think that I, I have a growth mindset. So I never ever think that anything is impossible for me. I never think anything is impossible. You mentioned about Tick tock, it’s for kids, it’s for dancing. It never occurred once to me that I couldn’t wait, let me check it out.

Glennda Baker
Sorry, I had a granola bar before we jumped on the bar was just like, Whoa, okay. It never occurred to me that I couldn’t do Tick Tock. But that just wasn’t even in my thought process. Like, I never, ever think that something that I put my mind to is impossible. And so what I do is I am constantly consuming. And I’m constantly looking to be inspired. I am looking to be inspired by everything and everyone around me. And I figure if I’m always seeking that inspiration, I’m coming from curiosity. In my head, I think that your potential is exponential. If you are constantly looking to be inspired, you are constantly looking to grow, you’re never satisfied with where you are. And you believe in yourself, and you have the work ethic to execute on your beliefs.
